I don't understand tenured faculty who don't mentor/talk to/respond to emails from their own doctoral students during the summer because they are not on contract. I am very concerned about labor justice in higher education. Also, don't take on students if you plan to ghost them for 3 months.

An analysis of calls on listservs and the desired projects' language for AI scholars would be really interesting for a tenured (aka job-secure) prof to pursue.

Larry is a pretty smart guy who went to Harvard, became a professor and later became president. This is almost unheard of in academia. Even going from student to tenured professor. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrenc...

E’melia is more than just knowledgeable in medical sciences. She also has interest in Aetherology, Anthropology and naturally Marine Biology the latter due to her father being a tenured professor in the field of the study.

3 frames showing a dialog with from the Discworld PC game, showing the wizard Rincewind speaking with the staff of the unseen academy.
Tenured staff: "I'd say that of all lessons in life, always learn to expect the unexpected"
Rincewind: "But if I expect it, it won't be unexpected"
TS: "In which case, my advice to you is to always except the expected. Is that clear?"

I'd really like to see more studies on how cutting teachers salaries and running off all the long-tenured, impassioned teachers in favor of a churn of fresh graduates every year has impacted kids' development. Sure seems bad...

For me it’s how it reflects how insular and navel gaze-y the media are. If only all the schools firing tenured faculty got the same attention. Also given Chris Rufo’s telegraphing before and celebration after shows they are complicit with laundering bad faith attacks into reasonable criticism.
