Oil painting of a young white woman or teenage girl barefoot in a farm field at sunrise. The lark in the painting's title is not in the painting, rather the art shows the young woman listening to it. The woman is not well lit since it is only sunrise. She is wearing peasant clothing including a white buttoned blouse with rolled up sleeves, a brown calf length skirt, and a blue wrap around her waist. She is holding a sickle in her right hand with the blade pointing downward. The land is flat and only a few trees are seen behind her in the distance. Her back is to the sunrise. In contrast to the dark muted pre-dawn colors that dominate the work, the half risen sun is in molten oranges, pinks, and yellows.
