Exactly. The default follow-up to anyone being critical ought to be, "OK. What's your policy plan, then?" Letting people wither away in dementia and bodily decay is not a thing anyone actually wants, except maybe sociopaths. Most of the opposition is just 'I'd rather not think about it.'

There are scholars whose work I really admire who, in retirement, have begun saying and even publishing awful ideas. I declined to review one of their books. Those things can wither in obscurity while we remember the good. But when they're in NYT, Nobel, etc. promoting bad ideas, it's different.
