Of all the crotchety old man behaviors I expected to pick up, I didn’t anticipate bolting up from a nap to run out and yell at the woodpeckers on my house.

A woodpecker's drilling echoes to the mountain clouds. ~Dakotsu Iida 🕉️ May your #WoodpeckerWednesday#Woodpeckers#BirdPhotography#BirdsofBluesky

That is an industrious little Ladder-backed Woodpecker male at the hole he's carving out while clinging to this tree...
"Helllooooo...? Anyone in there?" Is what I think he said when he stuck his whole head in that hole... It's possible I will be unavoidably detained for a bit, so have a fantabulous Woodpecker Wednesday! Deer peeps, I got you today...check the media tab.

I guess the bright side is someone IS watching...instead of looking elsewhere... ...on #TwoForTuesday#Mammals#WildlifePhotography#NaturePhotography

Really? I've never seen them at the feeders and I've always wondered what they eat when it snows. Maybe they're sneaking up when I'm not watching. Right now my yard is a buggapalooza so only the finches and Downy Woodpeckers are actively using the feeders.

Meanwhile on the Bird app... 🪶

My Merlin Bird ID app from this morning shows acorn woodpeckers, oak titmouses, and California scrub-jays.

I am not surprised to see Cri answering this. Nuthatches just want so badly to be mistaken for woodpeckers. They sound like tiny Woody Woodpeckers (whereas actual woodpeckers do not), and they move like woodpeckers.

Very cool. We have a pair of pileated woodpeckers on the woods behind my home. Those are magnificent woodies and are as large as a crow!! Truly an amazing sight when you see them close up. That’s one in my profile photo that I took.

I was wondering because they look similar in size to the downy and hairy woodpeckers we have on the other side of the pond. And thankfully those are very common. I always have tons of them at my suet and seed feeders.

😂 yes well, the cost of it which my other half is moaning about from time to time in terms of food, pays off with the song and variety film speckled tail woodpeckers to Nuthatches, Dunnocks, Great, Coal, long tailed and blue tits, robins, jays etc
