It's so very weird seeing people buy Robert Jenrick's YIMBY lines (to the point of using them to badly prophecy a split in _the Lib Dems_) when, like, all of his lines were written by Neil "Build More Prisons [But Not In My Backyard]" O'Brien, who is really the purest stripe of NIMBY.
Great article, showing the view of those actually thinking about wildlife and not just the latest YIMBY vs NIMBY neighborhood spats draping the Bay Area. Thanks for the links and work. So many suburban types using conservation as obstruction to exactly the opposite end. Good to see other viewpoints.
"I've found that some environmentalists possess human empathy and apply this to other issues. This is off-putting, to me."
People say a YIMBY shouldn't care about warehouses but it absolutely pains me to see degrowthers and NIMBYS run the same 'vacancy-truther' playbook once again, just like they do with apartments.
What I desperately want: a 3rd political party that just focuses on local and state races w/ pro-lgbtq, bold YIMBY housing policies, government transparency, & tight fiscal responsibility platform.
For land use, it seemed relatively YIMBY, but not urbanist - and part of the problem is transit. Along the route to Boulder, I saw tons of suburban 5 over 1s. In downtown Denver, it seemed like there were a lot of residential high rises near the CBD - but it lacked street life.
Why is the news so OBSESSED with nimby/yimby debates, whether people should vote for a lesser evil, and also my favorite bands and video games for some reason
In today's newsletter, I'm writing (again) about the sort-of tension of being a YIMBY for a barely-changing place I grew up in. This is my childhood Main Street, and I'm excited.
