Today's hike was delayed a bit as we waited for a line of thunderstorms move through. We made a quick trip to Afton's State Park's north prairie, through the tall bluestem, while it was still cool and cloudy.

Hikers, two huskies and a human, walk down a trail mowed in a tall grass prairie towards the top of a low hill. Clouds of various shapes, dark round blobs and higher fluffy streaks, span the sky, dark underside and bright beyond where the morning sun hides.

Zeena was the star of today's photo snaps at Afton. #Huskies #Hiking #DogsOfMastodon

Zeena, a fluffy husky, mostly white with dark accents, stops to hydrate in a clear shallow stream. Zeena wears a blue collar and an orange walking harness. The stream is only a few inches deep, and has a sandy bottom with scattered pebbles.

Zeena the husky approaches a clump of lavendar-colored aster flowers hidden in a clump of tall prairie grass on the side of a trail mowed in the prairie. The asters are small frilly circles of light purple around a yellow center, several dozen in a bunch, and the photo is taken through the tall bluestem grass, almost as a screen. Zeena's head and tail are up in an alert posture as she peers into the taller grass beyond the flowers.
