Commander Adama was right. I use Alexa for the weather and to play music and that is it
Yeah. I've worked in tech for a decade and don't own a single smart appliance. My phone is text only as much as possible (no assistant/listening etc).
Nest thermostats were pretty useful when they first came out. Then google bought the company and a year or two later pushed out an automatic software update IN THE MIDDLE OF JANUARY. People in colder climates found out about it by waking up in a freezing house, or their pipes bursting. Not so smart
i used to believe the final bit but way too many software people buy teslas and “smart home” bs can’t trust anyone we added “smart” cameras and light switches but they’re not cloud-based but local network. & use homekit (standard). & the switches have physical radio remotes to fall back on.
Am an engineer & sysadmin. This is 100% true, & I often preemptively disable device functions that have the potential to be annoying.
I don't need alexa, i have working fingers and duckduckgo lol
Not even a techie but German and like very uncomfortable with the amount of data shared and like the risks I take just to stay in contact with family n shit. I'm the weirdo who set Google assistant to a language I don't speak and deleted all other language packs & i hate that I can't remove it fully
the fact that people seem to want their phones to do EVERYTHING is nuts to me. That phone gets stolen or dropped down a sewer grate you’re fucked
