Excited to share my latest with @kelleyharris.bsky.social@aaronquinlan.bsky.social, now out as an eLife "version of record!" We found evidence for a second germline mutator allele in a population of 🐁 RILs, adding even more complexity to the story of mutation spectrum variation in lab mice.
Germline mutation rates in mice are shaped by two mutator alleles that interact epistatically, showing that DNA repair defects that map to different loci can have snowballing effects.
Builds upon the deCODE paper describing the mutagenic impact of DSBs. science.org/doi/epdf/10.... "We found that one in four sperm and one in 12 eggs in humans contains a de novo single-base substitution attributed specifically to repair of meiotic breaks."
A reminder of this faculty opening in the Dept of Human Genetics at UU. Applications are due Dec. 8. Please share!
Hi all, we just dropped version 2.31.1 of bedtools, which addresses some compilation issues encountered with GCC 13. Many thanks to John Marshall for the key patch and for the many users who reported this issue! github.com/arq5x/bedtoo...
The Dept of Human Genetics is hiring computational genomics faculty again this year! Last year we recruited Xiaoxu Yang - please apply to join him and our human, computational, developmental, and evolutionary genetics faculty. Please spread the word! utah.peopleadmin.com/postings/153...
Killer talk from Polly Fordyce on the mechanism underlying STRs modulating transcription factor binding. Cool techniques, clear delivery, and paper. www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjb6...www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
Glad it worked well for you!
Do you create computational techniques to study genome biology or disease? In the 2nd year of our comp. genomics hiring initiative, @uudbmi is recruiting computational genomics faculty. Deadline=Nov. 10. Please share. utah.peopleadmin.com/postings/151...
