Relatedly, when discussing complex issues, "why don't we just" almost always demonstrates that you aren't engaging with the complexity at hand. The world, people, really everything isn't simple. It never was and never will be.

surprised you have War for the Planet of the Apes on top 100 fantasy and superhero and not Dawn of the Planet of the Apes lol. although Dirty Pretty Things in top 100 thrillers is another inspired pick, it's so incredibly underrated

Lake Mungo and The Blackcoat's Daughter in the top 100 horrors, exactly!!!

and like yeah their act is helping Helen and whatnot but the movie, at least to me, understands that they're still pieces of shit at the end, even if they're "doing the right thing" because none of them are doing it to actually help Helen. it's just to save themselves.

like they're all complicit the entire time and while they are surprised at the reveal, nobody does anything to help stop him until it's beneficial for them to go against him. i could see the "kinda redeemed" thing if anyone tried to help, but like none of them do.

idk if they're framed as being redeemed as much as them just doing something to save themselves again, because it's in their best interests to side against him now that they've seen firsthand the damage he's done. to me, it's very much the movie just hammering in how absolutely awful they all are.
