Someone responded that they were more upset that active shooter drills are necessary. They are not. They make no difference to fatalities. The children in Uvalde followed the training rigorously. It is all a ruse to make the adults feel like they're doing something. It's pointless traumatization.

Trump and his supporters are not angry that the Manhattan trial was ā€œrigged.ā€ Theyā€™re angry that it wasnā€™t. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Even if the justices reject Trumpā€™s absurd legal theories, their dawdling may still prevent a trial from taking place before November. This gamesmanship by the justices on behalf of the party that appointed them bears far more resemblance to a corrupt or rigged process than a trial by a jury of oneā€™s peers does. And thatā€™s precisely the issue: In a Manhattan courtroom, facing 12 ordinary American citizens, Trump could not count on right-wing legal elites to skew the proceeding in his favor. Trump is not angry because the Manhattan trial that convicted him was rigged; he is angry because it wasnā€™t.

Alito lied about the reason the flag was up because he didnā€™t know the couple had text messages establishing the date of when the incident took place. They were supporting the insurrection. www.nytimes.com/2024/05/28/u...

To better understand the clash, The Times interviewed Ms. Baden, her mother and her husband, as well as other neighbors, and reviewed the texts that Ms. Baden and her husband sent to friends after the episodes. Justice Alito, who did not respond to questions for this article, has in recent weeks given his own explanation of what happened.

There are some differences: For instance, the justice told Fox News that his wife hoisted the flag in response to Ms. Badenā€™s vulgar insult. A text message and the police call ā€” corroborated by Fairfax County authorities ā€” indicate, however, that the name-calling took place on Feb. 15, weeks after the inverted flag was taken down.

I think Walmart and dollar general are the biggest killers of small towns and their expansion has been a more gradual process over 30 years or so

But urbanization has been going on for hundreds of yearsā€”at least since the Industrial Revolution. Has it increased measurably/perceptibly since COVID? The vibecession started in 2020

These "universities shouldn't take an institutional stand" takes are especially ridiculous when you consider that a central demand of student protesters is disclosure of university investments. Investing institutional money IS an institutional stand; the students are just asking what stand it is!

Arent LLMs quite famously built through illegally-obtained scans of pretty much everything ever written?
