To answer a rhetorical question because “I, a private entity, don’t want another private entity to distribute unlimited unauthorized copies (in my view) of my content” has nothing to do with book banning in any normal understanding of the words.

They are demanding a greater monopoly than copyright affords. And Constitutionally can afford. Copyright is SUPPOSED to be about benefiting the public. The publishers want to be able to quash that benefit if it cuts into the potential for profit, but that's not how copyright has ever worked before.
