Out with the UV torch last night looking for fluorescing caterpillars, and found this Eyed Hawk-moth caterpillar, covered in cocoons of a parasitic wasp, whose larvae will already have done for the caterpillar by feeding on its organs, before emerging to pupate. Fascinating, but poor caterpillar!
Sad to report Iâve had to stop reading this beautifully written, fascinating facts-packed book BUT the details of going underground bring out my terror of caving & fear of getting stuck. Anyone else given up a great book for similar reasons? Is Robert Macfarlane on here - wld like to apologise
