😆 On a serious note - this episode (immigrants and pets in OH) is almost a case study about programmed abuse of misinformation for political gain...

There are some people who are amazing at taking complicated topics and breaking them down into the most critical pieces, and communicating clearly about them. I wish I was better at this, but in the meantime, I'm taking notes from people who are the masters. open.substack.com/pub/sciencef... 🧪

To learn how to distill complex topics into direct communication, we can look beyond science for role models.

Agreed! Problems and systems where spectroscopy is one of the preferred tool are often interdisciplinary

Yeah, this can be seen in different disciplines. Can be expected to last another 2-3 years...

Overall, we probably teach and report research from/on spectroscopy on Chemistry side, which is fine, but yeah - spectroscopy is definitely an area that covers both sides of the boundary between disciplines.

My annual reminder that lots of us fans need two consecutive SBs between the Bills and the Vikings, each winning one.

Nice time-resolved attitude! Hopefully it integrates well to 1000s of seconds

So, a rare NFL trifecta (of interest to me) occurred - the Vikings, the Bills and the Pats all won in the same week.

Ch4 of Cosmos (relatively) piles on the chemistry - at least if you allow chemistry to claim spectroscopy… but I was most interested in the chapter ending on the greenhouse effect - and how little the conversation seems to have moved on since 1980 😭 #ChemSky

Photo of part of a page from Carl Sagan’s Cosmos, reading “Our intelligence and our technology have given us the power to affect the climate. How will we use this power? Are we willing to tolerate ignorance and complacency in matters that affect the entire human family? Do we value short-term advantages above the welfare of the Earth? Or will we think on longer timescales, with concern for our children and our grandchildren, to understand and protect the complex life-support systems of our planet? The Earth is a tiny and fragile world. It needs to be cherished.”
