saw one of these for the first time in my life today (rose-breasted grosbeak) 🙂
anyway it was just a kind of crazy experience, to see even a small creature like that basically come back to life from death. and feeling his entire rib cage smush under my hands as i was trying to give him chest compressions. also he was wet and dirty and my hands smelled like skunk afterwards lol
after a short stand off with the bylaw cops he scurried away and they left 😌 it was kinda crazy though because it was only in the last 5-10 minutes that he regained his bearings and got his feet under him. i think he had the peanut butter jar on his head for 30 m - 1h before i found him.
it was kind of heart-wrenching. i ended up calling someone from the city cause i wasn't sure what to do and no veterinarians near me were open. they ended up sending a couple of bylaw cops to get him, but at that point he had recovered enough to be walking around a bit, and threatened to spray them.
i had to wipe the peanut butter off his mouth cause it was blocking his nose. he started having what looked like a seizure and then just continued shaking for like 40 minutes. i thought i he had permanent brain damage and i had condemned him to some horrible half-life.
i found a skunk with a peanut butter jar stuck on his head on sunday morning, and it had been there for a while. i pried it off and tried gave him cpr (or just like chest compressions) and he seemed to come back to life.
