ACS national meeting is always such a glorious chaos where you see everyone from everywhere doing everything, and you eventually run out of yourselves to attend all the symposia you want to go to because you're not an electron. #ACSSpring2024

I, too, was trained for inert atmosphere chemistry. Don’t know what to do with all the inept atmosphere stuff.

I’m not sure how rational it is, but I worry that if we’re already seeing big shot school alumni diffusing into my dingy department for tenure track positions, there’s little hope for us in larger R1 institutes no matter how upward our career trajectories may be.

If we’re to think in that way, radios are probably the first wireless speakers.

It’s just a huge monitor then - I’m not against the idea, though.

So the two PIs I reached out to couldn’t offer a postdoc position. At least they replied within 24h.

That being said, buses, crowded as they were, were readily available. Taking one in lieu of school buses to school is not unheard of, except that I almost never see someone carrying a bicycle on board.

I remember when I was little I once rode my bike with my dad from one end of the town to another, and my mom carried me to the elementary school among other places on the back of her bike. That being said it was in a mid tier city >25 years ago when ppl didn’t have a lot of cars.

So yesterday I celebrated the publication of my first first-author paper with lab mates - it was accepted last year and went online last month, so the celebration was quite delayed. Can’t say I didn’t at all feel a bit sad when it was over, but that’s life, I guess.
