I thought the foundation of conservatism is that there must be in-groups that the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups that the law binds but does not protect.
I don’t think those two conceptions of conservatism’s foundation are necessarily incompatible—just different ways of saying the same thing. If Mr. Wilhoit wants to correct me, I’ll defer.
