What’s your thing that shouldn’t be controversial in today’s politics but somehow is? I want people to vote.
Common civic obligations (voting, jury duty, public service) should be easy to do and even treated as privileged, honored actions.
Amnesty and immigration reform, women’s reproductive freedom and universal healthcare.
“I don’t want to take away your guns.” I do. I think lots of guns should be taken away and I wish we had more of a collective backbone about it.
Clean air in public buildings. Can I have clean water too, and being able to swim in sewage-free rivers and lakes?
Teeth should be treated as medical care, not as cosmetic.
Everyone should have housing. If it needs to be free for them to be able to afford, the govt should give them free housing. I don't think there's more than a dozen elected officials in the US who believe that.
Election campaigns should be limited to five weeks and funded by the public (each candidate gets the same amount of money, no extra sources of funding).
Legislating for public infrastructure should be a priority, including bike lanes and better public transit
That we *should* welcome immigrants with open arms and figure out how to help them get acclimated and make them feel welcome instead of building an ineffective, costly concrete ego stroker for weirdos.
not voting is not abstaining from making a choice...its a clear choice in itself when all the information is out there... so everyone please vote if possible 💜 bsky.app/profile/btsl...
