I keep on reading about schools finding new ways to use generative AI, and I wonder what in the world the administrators are thinking. Given the energy and water wasted, they should be running away from AI, not embracing it.
1/Gah! www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2.... I knew it was bad, but dayum! Does anyone else feel immense sadness that we're totally ok with destroying our beautiful Earth in service of AI bots cranking out clickbait bullshit, deepfake pr0n, and fake news articles 24/7? Because let's be honest...
AI needs a lot of electricity and water to stay cool in data centers. We break down the toll prompt-by-prompt to show the scale of AI’s environmental needs.
1/Generative AI in schools makes me REALLY sad. Any chance of teaching students critical thinking, love for the humanities, love of reading and literature, etc. is now gone. AI is the ultimate laziness. Students are no longer taught how to *learn*. There's an art to finding the answers you need.
