We are experiencing Oregon voting and registration for the first time vs Texas voting and registration and y’all, I thought I knew but I did not KNOW, holy shit.

It’s one thing to explain over and over again to people that Texas is a demographically blue state gerrymandered and suppressed into oblivion and it is something else to get two thick voting pamphlets in the mail—city and state, on top of multiple helpful mailers so I can vote comfortably at home.

I saw someone posting about moving from CA to TX and how different the voting was and it was fascinating. I had never thought about how it might be different from state to state.

I haven’t lived in a “red state” as a voting adult (two purples tho), but voting in WA is truly something else. No lines, plenty of time to research stuff on your own (it’s been 16 years and I cannot IMAGINE how I remembered how to vote for all the small races when you forget specific names)

It’s so bad in Texas, and then Travis county was much much better to vote in than where I grew up in New York State. (Until recently there was no early voting and when I was growing up I think you had to have a documented reason for absentee voting.)

I have a kid in college and elderly parents trying to vote by mail in Texas. I am not kidding when I say that to do this properly, you need a magnifying glass to read the tiny, tiny crucial instructions to make sure your ballot actually gets counted. They make it so hard to vote here.
