Drawing on data from >3,400 youth wing members in 🇦🇺🇦🇹🇩🇪🇮🇹🇪🇸, we find that: 1) women are more likely to join for social reasons & men for material ones; 2) this is partly because women are more likely to know someone close (family/friends) in a party/youth wing before joining.

Hi #AcademicBluesky! Is there any research which argues that when people engage in 'countercultural' behaviour, we should expect them to have to show their commitment by being the most zealous? E.g. union members joining a libertarian political party. Many thanks in advance 😊
