It was a pleasure to present findings from our Youth Wing Membership (YOUMEM) project yesterday at the Youth Politics workshop organised by @henrikseeberg.bsky.social in Aarhus. Such a nice collection of papers and people!
On my way to Aarhus for a two-day workshop on Youth Politics organised by @henrikseeberg.bsky.social! I’ll be presenting a study from our Youth Wing Membership project (YOUMEM). My paper looks at gender differences in why people join youth wings.
I'm travelling to Aarhus tomorrow for a fantastic "Youth Politics Workshop", hosted by @henrikseeberg.bsky.social. For the last year or so, the youth wings survey team I've been honoured to lead has been preparing a bunch of papers. We're presenting 4 of them at the workshop. (wee thread)
I'm very grateful to @henrikseeberg.bsky.social@stefaniebailer.bsky.social@hferrinholopes.bsky.social@janabelschner.bsky.social, Clint Classen, Aksel Sundstrøm, and Kira Kurz. .
Beyond these four being presented tomorrow, we've got another 5 at various stages of development with the rest of the team (Annika Werner, Reinhard Heinisch, @cwegscheider.bsky.social & Ann-Cathrine Jungar). There will be a lot out (hopefully!) over the next 18 months.
Finally, @henrikseeberg.bsky.social will look at the question of efficacy among youth wing members and investigate how this is affected by individual-level and party-level factors.
Third will be @niklasbolin.bsky.social, whose paper examines the extent to which youth wings perform a socialization function for their senior parties.
Next up from the project will be @ammassarisofia.bsky.social who will talk about gender differences in why people join youth wings (and what explains these).
I'm first up, with a paper about our Youth Wing Membership Survey (YOUMEM) project. This comprised surveys of members from 12 youth wings in 6 countries. I'll also go through some of the main findings regarding who members are, when they join and why they do so.
