This post from Gavin is excellent and well worth reading; at Defra I merged a data team and a library team. There were some super synergies that enabled us to reduce costs and also points of difference that enabled the team to learn and grow its practice.

A key learning point was about working with service users to ensure we had the right things “on the shelf”. Weeding content (digital and print) enabled us to generate savings to invest in new products the users actually needed and valued.
