The pleasure was mine mate, truly.
I really enjoyed this piece Tobias, one of the best I have read on contemporary Japanese politics. I was struck you wrote the LDP is wedded to bureaucratism - given the last bureaucratic premier was Miyazawa. Does not the supremacy of party politicians suggest something different?
先日、歴史学者の伊藤隆先生が亡くなられました。博士論文を研究していた時期に伊藤先生にご指導をいただき、 心から感謝しております。謹んでご冥福をお祈り致します。 The historian Ito Takashi has passed away. When I was conducting my dissertation research, Ito-sensei provided guidance for which I remain most grateful. May he rest in peace. www.yomiuri.co.jp/national/202...

Really interesting piece Reyhan, threads history and geopolitics to remind us of the ties that bind.
I completely agree, but it’s a nonstarter politically. What is the concrete interest of the mainstream of the Democratic Party to reverse the “defunding and devaluation of humanities” when even the practitioners and universities don’t seem able or willing to defend themselves?
Will have to make time :)
I mean Nick, said like this, it’s almost an incentive 😂
