i think there's a tendency among cis ppl to view trans ppl as having "chosen their oppression", or that we aren't "oppressed" until we start transitioning so we're "new to being oppressed" or its "baby's first oppression". thats wrong and heres why. 🧵
first up, choice: i DO personally view transition as a choice. i chose to transition as a response to feelings (dysphoria) that i did not choose to have. does this mean i chose to be oppressed ? no. i was always already oppressed.
people forget that a lot of trans people are also part of other marginalized groups. for a lot of us, it isn't our first time experiencing oppression. this one happens to be considerably more dangerous, and is more visible from the outside.
