My "controversial" opinion today is that we should pay grad students/postdocs/RAs in areas that are not just CS *at least* a livable wage.
The "bottleneck" to good research is "years of training". WOW! Who would have thought. Shocking truly \s. So let's solve this by giving all our research funds to bots instead of like...funding more research areas. Sorry but they truly have no shame.

Yeah the k12 part is awesome!!! I just find it hard to justify to myself submitting to the LSA when with that money I could send multiple students to way more relevant (to our work) conferences (eg HSP). But ofc big Cog Sci, ACL, etc cost even more so yeah not really blaming anyone just, eh
I just find the registration fees a bit out of proportion (I understand that’s not really in the current organizers’ hands, am being unconstructively grumpy about money and resources).
