Both because being scammed sucks and is very difficult for people to mentally reckon with but also it also works in the opposite direction. Scammers inculcate this feeling of impotence and rage because it makes victims easier to scam
Underrated reason so many men in the United States are angry and consumed with feelings of powerlessness and rage is that many of them in the last 10 years have given away their financial security in scams, ponzi schemes, online gambling, crypto etc
The same things that motivate it in modern humans and other primates, presumably.
