I've seen how the non-trad undergrads can be hindered/judged, especially if they didn't graduate from high school on the typical schedule or are doing college part-time. One of our article authors worked FT during undergrad. It's taxing enough without having additional structural hurdles!
I also trailed my spouse some of the time and this definitely makes the career unroll in a rather bumpy way...
