I can recommend the sleeper as a way to get from London to Scotland, especially after a day of meetings.

I need to warn you that I'm on the sleeper back to Scotland. As a fan of trains, I'm rather excited!

I may need a new T shirt. Instead of 'read the guidance' it will say 'That is an England only issue' as I (and my Welsh colleagues) point out the HE regulations and compliance matters that only apply to England (and vice versa)

With all the think pieces on REF costs, if you really think they are too high for the return, we could just make the QR/REG pot bigger, fund 2* research and award UKRI students based on the results? UKRI can the focus on the bigger stuff?

Today some very clever people were in a room discussing HESA data. I was also present. I hope I said some useful things but I'm now struggling to remember anything and my head hurts.

And that was before the bloke drinking wine from the bottle, who kept trying to talk to me and who I had to keep asking not to lean on me. It's not been a restful journey 😕

It would have been quicker and much less stressful to have driven to the airport and flown. In fact, probably cheaper. I much prefer to use trains and a bus but it's not hard to understand why people choose not to, particularly in more rural areas.

Get to the train station. Normally trains take 6 hours to get to London. It's Sunday so it's going to take 7 and a half. Via Stirling and Lincoln. At least it wasn't a bus replacement.

So I get there, check the app (no, there's no signs at the bus stop) bus is apparently running 20 mins late. Decide to walk to the train station over the Tay bridge. 30 min walk. Just over half way and the bus goes past me. It was not delayed.

Why don't people use public transport more. Me- walked 15 mins to catch a bus to the train station. The bus stop was closer, but the bus company stopped sending buses through the village. On a Sunday there is a bus an hour.
