I need to warn you that I'm on the sleeper back to Scotland. As a fan of trains, I'm rather excited!
I may need a new T shirt. Instead of 'read the guidance' it will say 'That is an England only issue' as I (and my Welsh colleagues) point out the HE regulations and compliance matters that only apply to England (and vice versa)
With all the think pieces on REF costs, if you really think they are too high for the return, we could just make the QR/REG pot bigger, fund 2* research and award UKRI students based on the results? UKRI can the focus on the bigger stuff?
Today some very clever people were in a room discussing HESA data. I was also present. I hope I said some useful things but I'm now struggling to remember anything and my head hurts.
Why don't people use public transport more. Me- walked 15 mins to catch a bus to the train station. The bus stop was closer, but the bus company stopped sending buses through the village. On a Sunday there is a bus an hour.
Yes it's been a tough week, but new bus driver yesterday took the wrong route. Today, he managed to sell me the wrong ticket, went a different wrong route, took wrong turn and ended up down a cul de sac. He had to get someone to move their car so he could turn round. Not a great week for him either.
Morning started with a fire alarm at work, with fire engines and everything followed by trying to listen in an on line meeting with a demonstration going on outside (I'm on the 6th floor, how loud were they). Just what you need when you're in an all day on line meeting!
Today I misheard something as a suggestion for a wellbeing cat rather than a wellbeing cafe and I'm not sure I'm over the disappointment of it not being the cat option.
On a related note to my earlier grumpiness, does anyone know where I might find grant success rates for research councils? There used to be a report sent out but all I can find now is a Tableau report which won't let you download the underlying data.
I don't wish to be tetchy, but if your answer to REF being bureaucratic and expensive is to give the money out via research grants, then you really don't understand how expensive the research grant system is to run (for both sides) www.researchprofessionalnews.com/rr-news-uk-p...
UK Day One suggests “new, low-bureaucracy system” would improve research quality
