Excellent piece. Dems in the US have seen success by moving from apocalyptic warnings about Trump to mockery. However accurate, attacking fascist parties as dire threats to democracy cedes them the mystique of strength that makes them attractive to their voters. Maybe Germany needs a Tim Walz.
Indeed! Demystification does not work. In some cities where the AfD has shown a miserable performance (no practical work in the representation, internal struggles) the party nevertheless gained votes. Voters do not watch the unspectacular routine of politics closely enough.
Man muss endlich den vollen Rechtsstaat auffahren, rassistische Aeusserungen konsequent verfolgen und vor allem an die Finanzfluesse der AFD rangehen. Der Staat ist wehrhaft. Aber er muss wollen.
