I was born long after Dr Beeching closed most of Britain's minor rail lines. And I'm still furious at his short-sightedness.

Dam' right. There's a pub called The Lord Beeching opposite my local rail station, and I always think what bad taste this is, like building an abattoir next to a field of cattle.

Totally agree, he set the country back 10/20 years at least and made many rural areas totally inaccessible.
