Ah geez I didn't even read back and see this is about that type of "diversity". I even just mean class-based diversity. Getting poor kids into a discipline like archaeology. I expect succeeding in that will make the academy more progressive.
There is a lot of completely correct criticism of a lack of diversity in academia. But the solutions to these problems are systematic. You need to do years of work to build pipelines at all levels, and I'll tell you from experience - the roadblocks are HUGE and arbitrary.
There's this wild shame where we're all meant to be doing everything all the time and killing ourselves in pursuit of some individual perfection. Sometimes I feel like it's killing me. Like. Literally killing me.
We broke down after years of struggling to keep up with cleaning with kids, chronic illness, and both of us having stressful jobs. They came and did an (expensive) deep clean. It's an enormous privilege but also.. so worth it.
Very strange poll. It's generally good when pollsters post their outliers, but what a weird huge jump that's out of step with all other polls.
