Goodbye Alcoota Baru Hello Baru iylwenpeny Just named earlier today, this is the most robust species of Baru and perhaps the most complete mekosuchine period, with a skull that almost looks like it should belong to a dinosaur more than a crocodile.

It has a fascinating mosaic of both derived and basal characteristics and, unlike in previous studies, was recovered as the basalmost Baru species. Which means its part of a ghost lineage spanning the entire Miocene.
