I see “Rechtsruck” and “Erdrutsch” in Austrian media but swing is mainly WITHIN and not towards ÖVP-FPÖ. This is increasingly common: right-wing block wins modestly but within the right-wing block the far right wins big.

LA's Nazis in the 1930s referred to this as "Der Tag," the day. On that day they would unleash massive violence on the city's Communists (their term for "Jews") while the police force looked the other way From that point forward, they assumed, the "real Americans" would be back in charge.

Why do so many non-college white voters back Trump? One hypothesis suggested by this paper is that they perceive themselves to be victims and “respond with defiant pride.” Their “heightened ethnic identification creates a demand for dignity“ that Trump both stokes and panders to.

When Trump first chose "America First" as his slogan American Historians were like "um, yeah, that seems kinda bad." Now that he's moved on to praising "the late great Charles Lindbergh" I think we can dispense with the qualifications.
