I see that over the course of my (short*) commute home matters have substantially improved for the New York Baseball Mets. *albeit lengthened by having to go fetch something I forgot in my office after we were in the car and moving
I'm pulling for a Mets sweep today, for what that's worth. I'm sure you were on the edge of your seats waiting to hear how I was leaning.
Not from this--it's passing way too far away and is way too small--about a billion times less massive than the putative object from that paper last week. Even Apophis, which is passing more than 100x closer in 2029 than 2024 PT5 will get, is expected to remain intact after its close pass.
Yeah, this was the 60s when the airport first opened, so there was a _lot_ less volume and the airport was a lot smaller. Even so, it pretty quickly evolved into what it is today. I'll see if I can dig up the article I was reading...
I was reading about the history of those things, and apparently the original intent was for them to in fact be lounges! You'd get there early, hang out, have a drink, and at some point they take you to the gate.I was reading about the history of those things, and apparently the original intent was for them to in fact be lounges! Alt-1923 World Series, Game 1: In a wild, 10-inning slugfest, the Giants shocked the Yankees by scoring 5 in the 9th and 2 in the 10th to win 12-11. High Pockets Kelly went 5-5 and Torriente hit a HR for the Giants. Both starters were ineffective, and neither relief corps was much better.Alt-1923 World Series, Game 1: In a wild, 10-inning slugfest, the Giants shocked the Yankees by scoring 5 in the 9th and 2 in the 10th to win 12-11. I'm confident somebody will (or maybe already has for all I know) observe it to try to measure its rotation period and composition, so I'm confident it'll be imaged. Whether or not it'll be pretty is a different question. :)
And here I was thinking you were going to suggest something outlandish!
Whether or not to make them permanent is a different question, I don't think there are necessarily a lot of stable orbits for these things and they wouldn't be visible from Earth anyhow. Depends on the motivation for keeping them around. :) 2/2
