So weird how as soon as the pandemic started it became very immediately clear that things like socialized medicine and giving people money so children donโt starve actually work really well but now that itโs been a couple years we have to all pretend we didnโt notice that
We had what amounted to a national obligatory general strike, rent moratorium, and loan moratorium, and the wealthy responded by growing their fortunes by 25% in one year. you think at least some of the rich people would have noticed "hey, miserable people cost more than paucity saves" but ...
I think it's more, "yes, we gave people money and healthcare, then we fuckig took it away and there's nothing you can do about it".
Why do things well when you can talk endlessly about how America is inherently great and not do things well instead?

It was a huge missed opportunity because grassroots orgs are all captured and every politician is self-serving.
The Republicans in Congress AND Joe Manchin in the US specifically killed the child tax credit BECAUSE it was no-strings-attached support and they are monsters. It's not all of us.
And Public Health has had to forget there were no deaths from influenza in hospitals at the start of the pandemic, because they don't want to do what needs to happen to save all those lives and stop that human misery.
But that's "socialism". Never mind that it works better that what's currently being used.
Unfortunately, even during the beginning of the pandemic, there was an amazing number of people who thought the slightest bit of government aid was the first step towards death camps.
