'A team of scientists say it is “beyond reasonable doubt” the Covid pandemic started with infected animals sold at a market, rather than a laboratory leak.' As a non-expert in epidemiology, it's been neat following the biological detective work into the spillover event www.bbc.com/news/article...

Covid origins: Genetic ghosts suggest pandemic started in market

A team of scientists say it is "beyond reasonable doubt" the Covid pandemic started with infected animals.

It really says something about the inability of laboratory scientists to create novel coronoviruses.

With all the “spaced-out” narratives out there at the moment, it won’t be long before somebody says…..Starmer started it!!

Isn't this like, how most novel pathogens get introduced to the human infection pool? Zoonotic diseases jumping to new hosts? From a practical standpoint engineering a plague is both too costly/time consuming and not controlled enough for most purposes.

Dr Chris Smith (The Naked Scientists) said so at the time He's a consultant virologist at Cambridge University A man-made virus would show clear indications of being engineered from known virus

And Nate Silver will probably still ruin his reputation by continuing to spout "lab leak"...

If you're interested in pursuing similar epidemiological detective work in a fictional context, may I heartily recommend: omnipedia.app/wiki/2049/10/10/CMD_pandemic

I've been following this too, and I do 100% agree that covid came from an infected animal in a market, but I do have this feeling that it could've been a laboratory leak but I don't want to start conspiracy theories, so I'll leave all that to the experts to figure out

I’m just a layperson, but it seems like eating bush meat is not working out so well for humans. Green monkeys carried the virus that became HIV. The whatever in Wuhan carried COVID. Didn’t SARS also originate with bush meat? Civets?

And yet 'he warned "little or nothing" was being done to limit the live trade in wildlife, and "uncontrolled transmission of animal infections poses a major risk of future pandemics".' Sigh.
