don't want to be THAT guy, so I'll be brief: Ubuntu is falling out of favor lately for various reasons. if it proves too troublesome, try Mint or PopOS, two other Debian-based, beginner friendly distros with good community support

PopOS is really great (though I've only used it on a System76 laptop, not sure how it is on others). Ubuntu annoys the crap out of me with how heavy and cluttered it is, PopOS is just nice for my brain, this may be a me problem
