I so want Democrats to talk about immigration differently, & fear they're taking the wrong lesson from Trump getting Republicans to block the bipartisan border bill Yes ofc it's hypocritical but that doesn't mean that bill should be passed; it means GOP never *actually cared about ~border security~

They keep talking about a border bill that would pass congress unanimously, and I can’t help but think that anything that gets 100% Republican approval would be, by definition, monstrous.

I was wishing Murphy would say something like that, on the bad compromises Democrats made to push that bill through--"Next time we vote on this bill it won't be so bipartisan."

That's half of what I said when I sent them a message yesterday. That we should acknowledge the fact that immigration is a *good* thing for the country. It's vital! (The other half was encouraging them to allow the speech Mother Jones published)

They hate us and nobody cares and they hate us at their peril, us being immigrants and their children if anyone needed a reminder

And it means that their prescriptions for border safety aren’t legitimate. They’re just designed to play and hype on our fears.

Also, they don’t care about hypocrisy. It’s falling back into the same failed tactics that led to Trump getting elected while also endorsing his view that immigrants are bad.

Democrats should be talking about reducing border crossings by making legal immigration quicker, more affordable, and easier. I can think of no greater expression of freedom than choosing where you live.

Yes! I feel like a few speakers have allllllllmost gotten the point across that the GOP tanked it specifically at the behest of their Satsuma-Hued Overlord just to screw over Biden, but that doesn't mean the bill should have been past. It was a shitty, inhumane bill.

The cringiest line of the 2024 Democratic National Convention was VP Harris boldly declaring she would sign the exact Border Bill that trump sabotaged. Yikes on bikes. I hope she was just on a DNC high and in reality would work to modify it to be more humane.
