teamaurin I'm the lead author of the Encampment Removal Reporting ordinance. Our community has stood for a compassionate, humane, & dignified response to those who are unhoused. This ordinance is a 1st step in ensuring transparency in city actions. This will help us understand the real outcomes & costs of encampment evictions on unhoused residents, so we can make decisions that uplift people, instead of further marginalize them. I am looking forward to bringing this w/ @jchavezmpls & CVP @aishaforward10 after months of work. It will require the city to publicly report on all encampment removals- -ensuring transparency & accountability. There will be a public hearing on Sept 11th at the Public Health & Safety Committee at 1:30 PM. The ordinance mandates detailed reports on city actions regarding encampments, including their impact on individuals, use of resources, taxpayer dollars, & how decisions are made. The goal is
This effort was inspired by ongoing collaboration with NYC Council Members Shahana Hanif @shahanafrombk & Sandy Nurse @sandyforcouncil21 whose similar policies have been a part of shiftinf city practices toward greater oversight & an emphasis on the dignity of unhoused people.
