CNN's front page was literally covered in it yesterday, a small box for Vance's appearence on CNN's own sunday show was the only other story above the fold. Youtube's "BREAKING NEWS" chumbox was exclusively "assassination attempt" stories last night (I basically never watch political videos on YT)
This function - to cover the front page in stories favorable to trump and bury unfavorable stories - is as or more important to the media's project of electing Trump as the tenor of the individual articles and stories is
Take note how much a "stopped at the gate" assassination attempt - the type that normally merits only a passing mention, as the u-haul attempt on Biden in 2023 did - has dominated the news and pushed discussion of Trump's failure in the debate and competency totally out of the news.
Compare the way Trump is treated to the way Howard Dean was treated.
