Within a century or so it's Laodicea of the two that shows most evidence for gladiation being performed, so it's a strong bet

OK. Shuckbergh must be an outlier, I'll go with the majority of translators and plump for Laodicea on Lycus. Thank you!

Tarsus, sorry. On the other hand, I also was under the impression he spent much of 50 BCE in Syria, so perhaps I can't.

In 5.20 he mentions Laodicea, Apamea and also Cibyra, so I'm assuming I can discount the Laodicea and Apamea that are also close to each other in Syria. Once he moves out of Laodicea he heads to Tasus but that doesn't tell me much
