STREET TREES ARE USEFUL Street trees reduce flash-flooding Simply, they SLOW THE RATE rainwater builds up in our streets Holding water in their canopies Roots enable the ground to absorb more water Plus they cool our cities, thus lowering air moisture. They also improve property values, so the nz media should be all over it.

I used to live in Mt Albert. The roar of chainsaws every weekend made me think I was in some kind of forest. A neighbour cut down a Pōhutukawa and a large Magnolia tree because it messed with her gutters. She worked for a bank. Didn’t take long for the biggest trees to get cut down. Short sighted.

Really don't get cutting down trees because they drop stuff (except limbs) once a year. Realise it can be annoying but less so than other people, kids and pets. I love ti kouka but some hate them because they drop fronds 😭

I look back on that well-intentioned attempt to more fairly distribute greenery across neighbourhoods in the US, but it was saddled with the awful name of "tree equity" meaning the usual suspects could mock it. It really would have helped.

The flood footage of NC is so much asphalt just ripped off the earth while the trees seem…fine Fewer, smaller roads, more trees seems to be a good plan
