brand new student housing at NSCC Akerley campus 🌈

A three-storey, boxy-looking student residence hall next to a mostly empty parking lot. A sign next to the main entrance says "NSCC Student Housing". There is a double rainbow in the sky behind the building.

The rail line ran along Kempt which extended all the way through the block to Robie. It seems like the rail line served a bunch of industrial users and went as far south as the Gladstone Bulk Stores (a military property where Gladstone Ridge is today)

Old 1960s plan of the area around Robie Street and Kempt Road, showing Kempt running farther south than it does today. The plan also shows various railway spur lines.
Old plan of the Gladstone Bulk Stores, a long warehouse that was located on Gladstone Street in Halifax, just north of North Street. Behind the warehouse, running the length of the block, is a railway siding.

Robie Street rails

Disused segment of railway line embedded in an asphalt lot next to Robie Street, opposite the low brick CTV Atlantic tv studio. The empty lot is surrounded by several new residential high-rises.

a bike lane is born (Almon Street) #bikehfx

Construction of a bike lane on Almon Street in Halifax, in front of CNIB. Large traffic cones separate the sidewalk from a parallel bike lane under construction.
Another view of the same bike lane under construction, showing the intersection of Almon and Gladstone. The sidewalk is mostly clear aside from some cones and signage next to the crosswalk across Gladstone Street. The crosswalk across Almon Street is blocked by construction barriers.
An area of the roadway on Almon Street. Part of the roadway has been dug up and is surrounded by traffic cones.
Another area of the roadway on Almon Street, closer to Windsor Street. Part of the roadway has been dug up and is surrounded by traffic cones.

at times like this I miss living in places that weren't dominated by anti-social car culture

within minutes of leaving my apartment to walk the car sewers of our fine city, I was yelled at by people in a pickup truck, then encountered this red-light-running gentleman who came to a screeching halt in the crosswalk and then had the gall to be angry with me. #NSGZC497

A middle-aged man driving a grey SUV which is stopped in a crosswalk at the corner of East Perimeter Road and Bayers Road.
The rear of the same grey SUV, showing the Nova Scotia licence plate: GZC 497.
