The New York law that Attorney General Letitia James used to sue Trump does not require proof that anyone was injured by his financial dishonesty.
"No harm no foul" is not a valid principle of law. An attempt to violate rights is in itself a rights violation. Trump may or may not have done any harm through his deceptions, it remains that he violated the rights of those he deceived. That makes him a criminal.

If you see harm done and you refuse to look further than the proximate agent of that harm, you are incapable of adequate moral reasoning, and your moral conclusions will inevitably sanction and support harms to others.
Immoral law is no law at all, it is mere banditry dressed up in fine words.
If you don't have moral clarity you will be prey to every charlatan who has the expertise to find the cracks in your morality. They will weaken your resolve and persuade you to do their will. Your only defense against them is to have moral clarity and only you can build that defense.
