I understand why this is terrifying but I also want to point out all these guys do is invest in a million terrifying ideas that fail catastrophically 99% of the time because it leaves them none the worse off for it

And unless you get exposed to other people and ideologies (like in college) you just adapt the behaviors of your loudest friends as time goes on. I think this is specific to rural areas because your peer pool is smaller, so you stick with your tribe no matter how much you might disagree with them

It’s also especially hard for a lot of the younger half of those men to find different ideologies outside of college. So, if you grow up in a conservative area, with friends who trend conservative bc of *whatever* (parents,etc), you end up adopting those ideologies bc it’s all you’ve ever known…

Notice that each time the analysis is "what's happening with young men", "what are those young men not getting from Dems to win their votes back". And sure, yes, not great. But the articles keep getting it backwards. That gap (mostly) isn't men going right. It's mostly young /women/ going /left/
