A reminder: Cheap power prices have returned to Alberta. If you saved money on a fixed rate during the price spike of the past 3 years, it may time to shop around for a better rate or consider market floating. Forward prices point to continued lower prices. 🔌💡
At $3/MWh, yesterday was the 2nd lower daily average price in the history of Alberta’s power pool. The past month has seen the lowest, 2nd lowest and 4th lowest daily power prices in 25 years. 🔌💡
Capture prices tell us about the value of generation, i.e. is it generating when prices are high or low. Here I plot the premium or discount to the average price, i.e. vs something running 24/7 in AB. After several years of premiums, solar finally tipped to a discount on account of its growth.
