raise your hand if a car has almost killed you while you were a pedestrian and not doing anything reckless
"In 2022, cars killed 7,508 pedestrians, the equivalent of 18 fully-loaded Boeing 747s crashing with zero survivors. That means a pedestrian died roughly every 70 minutes, with no breaks in the tide of fatalities for weekends or holidays."
With 7,500 pedestrian fatalities in America every year, we must consider the safety of people outside our cars.
✋ Full eye-contact too.
Walking near my apartment in Waltham, MA The car stopped next to my feet
To add insult to injury, I was crossing with the light and a Prius almost took me right out.
I Punch your window if you cut me off in a crosswalk
I live in New York City, I’ve been playing the “Don’t Get Hit By Car” game for more than 20 years (at least that’s when I named it). I’ve never lost, but my brother has 3 times as a cyclist and survived each time.
Recently someone blasted through a red light right in front of me as I was in the crosswalk and gave me the finger as they zoomed by.
I only have 2 hands bit I lost count how many times this has happened. #CarsAreWeapons#WarOnPedestrians
Too many times. Now I will always make eye contact with the driver before crossing in front of them, even if I have the right of way. If I don't see their eyes, I assume they haven't seen me (because they probably haven't).
It's one of the reasons I started hiking for exercise instead of walking to the grocery store or coffee shop every day. I've seen multiple car crashes and was nearly hit by two different ones, not to mention the reckless drivers and cops stopping me for being suspicious. Like sorry it gets dark at 4
Every American pedestrian raises their remaining hands that have not been ripped off by motorists in needlessly oversized vehicles.
