How much of this do you think is driven by people's misunderstanding of how inflation works? People don't seem to get that inflation coming down means "prices are now rising at the rate they used to" rather than "prices are now what they would have been if COVID hadn't happened"

People inherently view an increase in salary outside of the context of price inflation. If someone gets a 5% raise, and prices have gone up 5%, it doesn't feel like things are in balance, because they expect to be able to use that 5% for something they weren't already.
