I mean, I could see some sort of age-based phase-out as they need less and less childcare, but honestly if you're raising 10 kids without paid childcare I think 120k a year isn't an unreasonable salary. You could potentially abuse such a system, I'm just not sure if it's a likely outcome.

Oh maybe just an annual, fully refundable CTC of $12k/kid paid monthly...

Or just ignore their rulings once in office. That's always on the table.

Are there though? Is the proportion of people who are likely to vote but undecided really a substantial category compared to the proportion of people who know who they'd vote for but don't bother to do so?

What I don't get is why the polling is always framed around swaying "undecided" voters. Isn't driving turnout/enthusiasm in general equally if not more important? I'm not convinced "swing voters" are really a thing like "swing states" are.

I just don't see how you do anything about it outside of publicly shaming a company without upending the entire economy. My understanding is most economic theories posit this kind of direct manipulation of private industry is a recipe for disaster outside of policing actual price fixing/collusion.

I'm just skeptical, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. I'd say the best you can do is publicly call out companies that raise prices above and beyond increased costs as evidenced by shareholder earnings calls (where it's illegal to lie). Otherwise the best you can do is checks/tax credits.

I get what might trigger it, but I'm not sure how we could actually implement it while avoiding the worst of the effects that we saw the last time our country tried to implement price controls.

We'll see what the details look like, but do you have any sense of how they're going to actually attack price gouging without instituting price controls? Outside of maybe offering some tax breaks to pick winners and losers, I don't see how this happens.

Yeah, I really hope she isn't serious. There's no version of this that's workable in our (or really any) developed economy. If you want to help people hurt by inflation, get them more/save them more money.
